Spring is here. Get ready for rain!
With the change of season it's time to prepare for the rain.Tips to help you through April showers:
Change your wipers if needed – Nothing says, "I need new wipers" like a little rain. After a tough winter the rubber can be worn from salt, ice, and the frigid cold. Even worse, accumulation of grit on wipers can scratch your windshield and cost you a lot more in the long run. Taking a few minutes on a nice spring day will keep you safe on the not so nice ones.
Windshield Treatment - Do you really need it? Maybe not need, but it is one of the cheapest, fastest ways to improve road visibility and what's more important than that? Rain-X has a variety of simple applications from being added to your wiper fluid to being applied with a deodorant like stick. There are other brands that do the same thing but they all follow the same rules.
- Clean your windshield. Not wipe. Not rinse. Clean. Afterwards dry with cloth that won't leave fibers behind or scratch the glass. This step is the difference between, "this stuff doesn't work" and "this stuff is great!"
- It will not help if the wiper blades are caked in road salt or shredded. Make sure this is taken care of first.
- Cleaning the outside won't fix fog on the inside. Check your automotive store for anti-fog products if this is the issue.
Keep an umbrella in the vehicle – It's not a big things to go sans umbrella when you're not going to be outside long. But you never know when you're going to end up broken down or helping someone who is.
HEET Additive – If your engine suddenly runs rough as your gas tank runs low, you may have water in your fuel system due to the increased humidity. Add HEET to your next fill-up to remove water from your fuel tank and get back on track.
Check your tread – Worn tires can be dangerous once it rains. Hydroplaning is a prime cause of accidents in these conditions. Tire tread less than 4/32" are not appropriate for wet conditions. If they're unsafe it's time to replace before you end up replacing a lot more.
